Walt Disney World is actively hiring for the position of Operator – Solid Waste Equipment.

Okay, let’s call it what it is: it’s garbage and recycling. But before you scroll past, look at the pay rate. This is one of the higher-paying hourly roles at Disney, and you get to go home every night.

The Quick Details

Here is the snapshot of what you need to know:

What You Would Actually Do

You are responsible for keeping the “Most Magical Place on Earth” clean. You will be driving heavy-duty vehicles around the resort property (parks, hotels, and backstage areas).

  • The Equipment: You’ll be operating Front-Loaders, Side-Loaders, Roll-offs, and potentially Compactor trucks.
  • The Route: You aren’t driving across the country. You are driving short distances on Disney property to the transfer stations or landfills.
  • The Skill: You need to be comfortable backing up large vehicles into tight spaces (like loading docks behind restaurants).
  • Manual Transmission: You must be able to drive a manual transmission truck. If your CDL has an “E” restriction (Automatic Only), you likely won’t qualify.

Why Is This a Good Job?

  • The Pay: Starting at $28.38 an hour is solid for local work in Orlando.
  • Local Route: You are home every day. No sleeping in a cab.
  • Disney Perks: Even though you are driving a trash truck, you are still a Cast Member. That means you get the Main Entrance Pass (free entry to the parks for you and guests), discounts on food/merch, and access to Cast-exclusive areas.

Do You Qualify?

They are strict about the driving requirements because safety is Disney’s #1 rule.

The Must-Haves:

  1. License: Valid Florida Class A CDL held for at least 1 year.
  2. No “E” Restriction: You must be able to drive a manual transmission.
  3. Experience: At least 1 year of recent tractor-trailer or heavy truck driving experience.
  4. Physical: You need to be able to lift up to 50 lbs and climb in and out of the cab frequently.
  5. Record: You need a clean driving record (no DUIs).

  2. Apply: Log in or create a Disney Careers account.
  3. Prepare: If they call you, be ready for a road test. They will test your ability to drive and back up safely.
