Carnival Cruise Line is looking for people to join their Housekeeping Team as a VSP Attendant (which is a fancy way of saying Pest Control Manager).

Now, before you scroll past: this is one of those “hidden gem” jobs on a ship. It is specialized, important, and gets you all the same perks as the entertainers and bartenders, but without having to perform on stage.

The Quick Details

Here is what you need to know about this shipboard life:

Minimum Age21 Years Old

What Would You Actually Do?

VSP stands for Vessel Sanitation Program. Cruise ships have extremely strict hygiene rules (way stricter than hotels on land) to keep everyone healthy.

Your job is to make sure the ship stays 100% bug-free. You are the expert who keeps things clean and safe.

  • Inspections: You’ll check crew cabins, guest rooms, and kitchens (galleys) to make sure there are no pests like ants, flies, or bedbugs.
  • Prevention: You’ll set traps, check “air curtains” (those blasts of air at doors that keep flies out), and inspect shipments when they are loaded onto the ship.
  • Record Keeping: You have to log everything you do because government inspectors (USPH) check these records carefully.

It’s a serious job, but you work independently a lot of the time, which is nice.

Why Work on a Ship?

Ship life is unique. It’s hard work, but the benefits are pretty incredible compared to a normal land job.

  • Travel for Free: You wake up in a different country almost every day.
  • Zero Rent: You live on the ship for free. No rent, no electricity bills, no water bills.
  • Free Food: All your meals are provided in the crew mess.
  • Save Money: Since you have almost no bills, you can save a huge chunk of your paycheck.

Do You Qualify?

They are looking for someone who is ready to handle the physical side of the job.

The Requirements:

  1. Experience: They want 1-2 years of experience in a similar role (pest control or sanitation).
  2. Language: You must speak fluent English (since the ship’s official language is English).
  3. Physical Fitness: You need to be able to lift at least 60 lbs and pass a medical exam (called a Seafarers Medical).
  4. Certification: You usually need a valid Pest Control Certification (or be willing to maintain one).

How to Apply

If you are ready for an adventure and don’t mind chasing a few bugs to get it, this is a great way to see the world.

  1. Go to the Site: Visit the Carnival Shipboard Jobs Page.
  2. Create a Profile: You’ll need to register on their recruitment site.
  3. Apply: Submit your resume. If the job says “Unavailable,” sign up for alerts—these spots open up constantly as ships rotate crew.

Pro-Tip: Make sure your resume highlights any experience you have with hygiene, sanitation, or pest control. If you’ve worked in a hotel or hospital cleaning team, put that at the top!

Good luck!
